Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi

Egypt's presidency denied a Saudi media report saying that President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's guards stopped an attack against his motor parade on 26 October.

Al-Madina newspaper reported that a 30-year-old man tried to target El-Sisi's parade with a bomb car. He rushed out of the car when he was approached by security forces, who arrested him and found explosives attached to the vehicle, according to the report.

The Egyptian presidency denied the report after it was cited by a number of local media outlets, saying the reported failed assassination attempt never took place.

El-Sisi was inaugurated as Egypt's president four months ago after a landslide victory over his sole competitor, leftist figure Hamdeen Sabahi. The elections came after ex Mohamed Morsi was toppled in July 2013 amid nationwide protests against his rule.
