Egypt included along with Algeria, Gabon and Ghana as potential hosts

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced four candidates to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations: Algeria, Egypt, Gabon and Ghana.

"Of the countries which submitted bids to the General Secretariat of the CAF by the deadline of 30 September 2014, only four were determined to be compliant with the set criteria to be considered," the confederation said on Sunday.

"The executive committee will finalise the date on which to take the vote to determine the host country," the CAF added in a statement including resolutions of the 11 November executive committee meeting.

The 2015 Africa Cup championship, kicking-off in January, was set to be held in Morocco but was moved to Equatorial Guinea after the North African country withdrew over fears from the organisation of Ebola.

Egypt hosted the championship in 2006, winning it and its two successive editions in 2008 and 2010, but has failed to qualify for the last two.

In a desperate attempt to reach the Equatorial Guinea games, the Pharaohs are bidding to beat Tunisia away from home on Wednesday in the last qualifier, to finish as the best third-placed team among the seven groups.
